Pore size distribution

The pore size distribution is bimodal: one population of pores around 0.05 mm is due to the silica aggregates, while the biggest pores between 1 and 5 mm (depending on type and formulation) come from the solvent extraction.
Depending on pattern and formulation, the volume porosity ranges from 68% to more than 80%.

The unique bimodal pore size distribution (cf figure 1) allows a fast ion exchange and a perfect protection against short circuits (due to dendrite growth), even in case of very high longevity.
The form of the pores is very tortuous.
For a given thickness and formulation, two types of pattern are available: ribbed or corrugated. The corrugated material offers additional porosity.
