The driving force behind technology

Amer-Sil has built up a solid team of experts and engineers to pursue the ongoing development of battery components. Our state-of-the-art research facility, the Guy Dauwe R&D centre, opened in February 2020. It is equipped with polymer and electrochemistry labs and a battery cycling facility.

This facility allows us to continue spearheading the development of battery components with our separators and gauntlets and to evolve our portfolio in line with future energy storage technologies.

We believe that innovation is key to making tomorrow better and that excellence in research is only achievable through collaboration. We listen closely to our customers’ feedback, which is a source of inspiration in our R&D work for the lead acid battery market.

As a member of the Consortium for Battery Innovation, we participate in international research associations in the industry and promote public research projects with the world’s leading universities.

Development of customer solutions for RFB

Amer-Sil aims to draw on its 50 years of wide-ranging experience in the energy storage sector to contribute to the future of battery technology and sees redox flow batteries as an important part of this vision.

For some decades, our company has been a reliable supplier of components for industrial lead acid batteries and large-scale energy storage systems. We are now seeking to play a similar role in future ESS systems built with flow batteries. In pursuit of this vision, we aim to establish a new field of application for the reliable, high-performance and cost-effective lead acid battery separator in flow batteries.


Amer-Sil’s Research & Development and Sales teams have joined forces to serve our future RFB customers. We have modified the separator pore structure to meet the specific requirements of redox flow batteries more effectively and our sales team is on hand to foster relations with existing and new partners and move forward together.

Prototypes created by Amer-Sil’s R&D team are subject to ongoing development based on customers’ feedback. Our sales and technical staff are keen to take on development projects with flow battery and stack manufacturers aimed at defining final product characteristics which fit the requirements pertaining to a specific design and electrolyte chemistry. 

To address this challenge, we have joined forces with globally recognized partners in the worldwide RFB community. We are also proud to be collaborating with innovative companies, start-ups and research centres as part of “FlowCamp”.

This EU Innovative Training Network established by the Marie Sklodowska Curie program is the flagship among the many efforts we are undertaking to prepare ourselves for the RFB future in ESS.
